Introduction to Cryptography and Cryptocurrency Part 1.

So there's been a lot of talk lately about security, encryption, and cryptocurrency on the news lately. Most of it is fear based and I don't like to take action based on fear.  So in this series we'll be talking about the technical details in a way that is much more understandable and accurate than CNN or Fox.

What is encryption? Encryption comes from the old English en and the Greek word kruptos which means hidden, so literally "in hidden." Its used in things like SSL (Secure Socket Layer) which is used when you're paying for something online with a credit card so someone can't steal your credit card information.

So what IS encryption? Here is a video that explains it better than I ever could. (if you want you can stay tuned for the whole video and learn a bit about quantum computing too).

So there you go. This is how encryption works. Next time we will be talking about how encryption relates to cryptocurrencies and add in a little economic theory.

Special Thanks to Frame Of Essence for making the video.
