The Phoenix Homeland Defense Bureau is looking for Ahwatukee residents to join its Community Emergency Response Team.

CERT trains members of Phoenix neighborhoods, community organizations and workplaces in basic disaster survival skills.

The Phoenix CERT program supports the Homeland Defense Bureau, made up of Phoenix Fire, Phoenix Police and the city Office of Emergency Management and Department of Public Health.

Not all CERT volunteer work involves emergencies. It can also involve handing out information in neighborhoods about safety awareness or providing water during special ceremonies in hot weather that involve first responders.

The next 20-hour training session begins June 2.

To apply: phoenix.gov/fire/directory/cert.
