Search for suspects in Ahwatukee pellet gun attack

Phoenix police looking for those responsible for firing a pellet gun at people in Ahwatukee.

Police say the incident happened near Andy's Frozen Custard Shop, around the intersection of Warner Road and 48th Street.

Katy Proctor's son was hit, and she says it could have been so much worse.

"The worst part for me was when he said, 'mom, I thought I was dead'," Proctor recounted. "Like, just to hear that from your kid is heartbreaking. Your 12-year-old should never go through something like that where they feel that way."

Proctor says her son and his grandmother were enjoying a treat outside the frozen custard shop Saturday night when someone drove by and sprayed a group of people with pellets from a pellet gun.

"We were in the middle of our rush on a Saturday night, and we hear the pop of the CO2 tank, and a shattering of the window," said Jacob Ruedas.

Proctors son was hit in the temple.

"They were just enjoying their treat, and before you knew it, he felt something hit his head," said Proctor.

Proctor says this is a reminder to kids and parents that what seems like a harmless prank can change lives forever.
