The Ahwatukee man is attending Stony Brook University School of Medicine as a Medical Scientist Training Program Fellow.
He recently finished the first semester of an eight-year program funded by the National Institutes of Health, and by the time he is done he will hold both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees and start his medical residency.
Marshall, a 2012 Desert Vista High School graduate who graduated in May 2016 cum laude with a biochemistry degree from the University of Arizona, aims to get into genetics and specialize in gene therapy or translational science, said his mother, Ann.
