Friendship Community Church in Ahwatukee is getting only its second senior pastor since it started in Ahwatukee in 1995.
The Rev. David A. Deputy is taking over at the church, 9807 S. 48th St., moving here from Baker City, Oregon, and replacing retiring senior pastor and founder Randy Cook.
Deputy, married and the father of three children, brings with him a philosophy “to produce and unleash Christians whose lifestyles express Christ to their communities and beyond” and a goal “to develop Christians to be biblically based, family centered, socially responsible people of integrity who are evangelistically courageous.”

Deputy also isn’t losing any time reaching out to the community: He plans to be in the Ahwatukee Kiwanis Club Easter Parade, driving “The Beast” – his 1971 International Travelall.
“It may be the greatest car I have ever owned,” he said. “It is old, rusty, it guzzles gas and is so fun to drive. It is a project car for my son and I … we are working to restore it together and we have a long ways to go … but we have the time.”
