The Loop 202 South Mountain freeway is getting a Frank Lloyd Wright makeover.
Arizona Department of Public Transportation crews added a coat of earth-tone base paint to the future 40th Street traffic interchange in Ahwatukee.
The color will be used consistently throughout the 22-mile corridor.
“ADOT had a unique opportunity with this project to partner with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and use freeway aesthetics to tell a story by showing differences in land uses, landforms and history,” Joseph Salazar, ADOT’s roadside development, project landscape and architecture coordinator, said in a press release.
A reddish accent color will be used on the retaining walls, abutments and bridge barriers to resemble an Ocotillo flower.
